Blow the Winds I Oh was collected inHampshire by Bob Copper, when he waslandlord of the HH Inn at Cheriton nearWinchester. The song may have originatedin Ireland where it was sung by streetsingers in the early 19th century. The lyricsare about lovers oceans apart, because(probably) the lady was transported toAustralia. Many convicts from both Britainand Ireland were sent to Australia between1788 and 1868.
